In class today, Thursday 9/29, we went over Ethical Opinion 140. I gave out three handouts, two articles and Ethical Opinion #186. There will be no class meeting on Tuesday October 4. The assignment for Thursday 10/6 is to do a Summary of Opinion 186.
PL 205
In class today, Thursday 9/29 I handed out 2 research questions to each person or group. There will be no class meeting on Tuesday October 4. The assignment for Thursday 10/6 is to work on finding and writing up those research questions.

PL 100
In class today, Tuesday, 9/27, I gave out four handouts. We went over ethics opinions #61 and #156. We went over the format for writing up a summary of the Commission opinions. The assignment for Thursday is to read Ethics Commission opinion #140 and to write up a summary of the opinion, following the format in the Sample.

PL 205
In class today, I gave out 2 handouts. We went over proper citation form, and then went over the Sample Digest format. The assignment for Thursday is to re-read the textbook discussion of Digests.

PL 100
In class today, we started by going over the letters that students had written to clarify whether representation had commenced. I handed out the Maine Rules of Evidence regarding lawyer-client privilege, and we discussed the concepts of privilege and confidentiality, We compared the Maine rules regarding privilege and confidentiality with the ABA rules discussed in the textbook. For next class on Tuesday, September 27, we will continue to discuss privilege and confidentiality. The additional assignment for Tuesday is to read pp. 78-81 in the text, and to locate and read the corresponding Maine CPR rules regarding conflicts.

PL 205
In class today we went over the statutory papers. We went over some of the concepts in chapter 4 of the text. On next Tuesday we will go over the chapter 4 concept of how to do a case brief . The additional reading assignment is pp. 155-167 in the textbook.

PL 100
In class on Tuesday, Sept. 20, we did more interviewing based on the Ethical Lawyer article. We discussed the Ethical questions on p. 102. I handed out the Maine Code of Professional Responsibility (MeCPR). I also distributed Westlaw passwords. The assignment for Thursday is to write a letter to the client that corrects the problem discussed in the Ethical Lawyer article, i.e., that confirms the information from the initial interview with the client, and clarifies whether representation has commenced. This letter should be typed out, and will be graded. The additional assignment is to read pp. 71-78 in the text, and to find and read that part of the MeCPR that discusses the confidentiality requirement.

PL 205
In class Tuesday, I handed out westlaw passwords. We went over the experience that people had when doing their statutory research. Students who had finished the research handed in their papers. Others should finish that research. I handed out a sheet of Useful Web Sites, and we tried doing a Maine Statutory search from the Janus site. We discusses Exercises 8, 12, and 14 on pp. 94-96. The assignment for Thursday is to read Chapter 4 of the textbook.

In class today we went over chapters 1 and 2 of the textbook, and discussed the ethical questions at the end of chapter 2. The assignment for Tuesday, Sept. 20 is to read in the text pp. 63-71 and 81 -101. Prepare to discuss Ethical questions 1-3 on p. 102. We also started practice interviews based on the Ethical Lawyer handout, and will continue with the interviewing on Tuesday.

PL 205
In class today we went over chapter 3 of the textbook, and then took a tour of the Husson Library. I handed out statutory research questions, as well as a format to use as you write up your research. The assignment for Tuesday, Sept. 20 is to write up your statutory research question if you have finished it, and to prepare to discuss from the textbook Exercises 8(b,c,d), 12(c,d) and 14(c) on pp. 94-96.

PL 100--Intro.
In class today, Tuesday, Sept. 13, we went over the Lovelace article. The assignment for Thursday, Sept. 15, is to read Chapter 2 and prepare to discuss the three Ethical questions on p. 61. Also, I handed out a handout, The Ethical Lawyer, and I would like you to read it and prepare to use it as a basis to practice interviewing.

PL 205 Legal Research
In class today, Tuesday, Sept. 13, we went over Assignment 5 in Chapter 1, and the Assignments at the end of Chapter 2. The homework for Thursday, Sept. 15, is to read Chapter 3 in the textbook.

PL 100 --Intro-- In class on Thursday, September 8, we went over issues of what a paralegal can and can't do. On Tuesday September 13 we will go over the Lovelace article in the handout (the Case Law Update). The additional assignment for Tuesday is to read Chapter 2 in the textbook.

PL 205 --Legal Research---In class on Thursday, September 8, we went over Assignment 4 in Chapter 1 of the textbook. On Tuesday September 13 we will go over Assignment 5. The additional assignment for Tuesday is to read Chapter 2 in the textbook, and prepare to discuss Assignments 2 through 5 on pp. 45 and 46.
