PL 100
In class on Tuesday, Sept. 20, we did more interviewing based on the Ethical Lawyer article. We discussed the Ethical questions on p. 102. I handed out the Maine Code of Professional Responsibility (MeCPR). I also distributed Westlaw passwords. The assignment for Thursday is to write a letter to the client that corrects the problem discussed in the Ethical Lawyer article, i.e., that confirms the information from the initial interview with the client, and clarifies whether representation has commenced. This letter should be typed out, and will be graded. The additional assignment is to read pp. 71-78 in the text, and to find and read that part of the MeCPR that discusses the confidentiality requirement.
PL 205
In class Tuesday, I handed out westlaw passwords. We went over the experience that people had when doing their statutory research. Students who had finished the research handed in their papers. Others should finish that research. I handed out a sheet of Useful Web Sites, and we tried doing a Maine Statutory search from the Janus site. We discusses Exercises 8, 12, and 14 on pp. 94-96. The assignment for Thursday is to read Chapter 4 of the textbook.
